periodic notes (updated July 2nd, 2025):

So….

in a way there are 3 layers to this project. it’s not vital that you follow or even understand them all. only I really need to do that. if just you’re here for the beats, cool. or maybe the music isn’t up your alley but the concepts are interesting to you. I get that. I just want to be sure I’m clear::

The Layers:

  1. Music. It’s just a bunch of music. some of it’s dark, some of it’s challenging, most of it isn’t very professional sounding but I like that sort of thing and if you’re here you probably do too.

  2. Magick. Yes it’s a bit “woo-woo” you might say, but this whole project is an attempt a Grant Morrison-esque hypersigil of sorts. don’t think I take that super literally either. I am exploring concepts, not living in a fantasy land (per se….)

  3. Fiction. It’s all part of a world I’m building, in my head at the moment but hopefully out of my head later on. here’s a secret: the fiction element I hope to release is kind of a series of diary entries following a metaphysical sort of apocalypse. does that make sense? not a Mad Max world but something between that and say, Adventure Time.

another part that’s not really a 4th layer as such is just… my reason/motivation for doing this. that in itself is kinda two-fold.
for one, there’s the purpose of the magical, ritual side, which I’ll keep to myself for now. it’s pretty good though. you’d support it.

more essentially - I was fed up with the music system, to be honest. as an older person I can assure you it wasn’t always like this. it always sucked but this is worse.

so instead of hoping every release I put out would DO NUMBERS or something, i crafted this exercise so that it didn’t matter. the whole project is bigger than that. and even if nobody really hears it all, it will still be a success in a way I can clearly define. for myself.

so… if you are interested in layer 2 or 3 please read on at your leisure. if only number 1, don’t worry about this part…

G.A. = Green Annex

the Green Annex is the name that came to me for a place that appears to be the direct opposite to the gnostic Black Iron Prison, as discussed by Philip K Dick in several novels, most notably VALIS (note: this is not necessarily a tribute to PKD, that’s just a way to describe it. another way might be that the Green Annex represents something like enlightenment, a plane of higher consciousness, perhaps. it’s not 100% clear to me for reasons you’ll see below).

my G.A. series of EPs therefore constitutes a story I am writing for myself, to myself, that is being written concurrently with the music. almost written BY the music, in a sense - as the process is not as straightforward as it might sound, and it is an ongoing process.

on a narrative level the G.A. series is like a post-apocalyptic novel about someone trying to reach a certain safe place in a dangerous world. standard post-apocalypse storyline really.

on a symbolic level it chronicles my own explorations and experiments with belief/magick/philosophy etc.

as such it’s simultaneously a quest, a journal about said quest, and the subject matter of its own quest. the art is the journey but it’s also the outcome/product.

it’s a long form ritual AND magickal diary.

(the intent for said ritual is not just about me, either)

there will be definitive documents, at a later stage.

if there’s a formula it’s like… an idea/concept/thought/belief experienced or explored by myself > becomes a tune on an EP > tune inspires section of creative writing… or something like that. it’s not that the music is the soundtrack for a novel, it’s the inspiration. i am not naming these tracks with an eye to informing the content of these stories, for example.

how to read:

numbers in the title represent the chronology of the chapters (EPs)... we began with Zero, then move backwards to Minus One, to be followed by One, then Two, etc.

currently there is no defined Last Number.

the sub-titles of each EP (Crystallisation, Currents, etc) represent the subject matter of that part of the story. Crystallisation represents the formation of the idea, any idea, the concept, the drive, the quest. Currents represents the backstory in a way, how we got here, why we are on the quest. Crossing is the beginning, a crossing-over into a phase you can’t really step back from - you just have to push through. Crises is about the first obstacles faced in the new quest, taking damage, betrayal by authority, which leads directly into … the next one.

One final note (for now): none of this is necessary to anyone “understanding” these tunes. it’s still music. on a very basic level I’m just doing this because I realised - at a very low point fairly recently - that I’m at my happiest and most content in the world when I’m creating and playing with large, outlandish, inter-related ideas. World-Building. if you will…
